How to show it on your TV

Choose TV in step 5 first. Then pick the way that suits your phone and TV.

iPhone (easiest)
  1. Tap Save to my phone, then choose Save Image. (Or press and hold the picture and tap Save to Photos.)
  2. Open the Photos app and tap your message.
  3. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow), then AirPlay.
  4. Pick your TV. The message fills the screen.

AirPlay works with Apple TV and many recent Samsung, LG and Sony TVs. If your TV is not listed, try Show on TV below.

Android
  1. Tap Save to my phone, then choose Save or Download.
  2. Open Google Photos and tap your message.
  3. Tap the Cast icon (a screen with a wifi symbol) at the top and pick your TV.

Samsung phone and Samsung TV? Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Smart View instead.

Screen mirroring (any phone)
  1. Tap Show on TV. Your message fills the phone screen.
  2. Turn your phone sideways.
  3. Start Screen Mirroring (iPhone: swipe down from the top right corner) or Smart View (Samsung) and pick your TV.
  4. Tap the screen to close when you are finished.

Mirroring copies your phone screen, so you may see thin bars at the edges. Saving and casting the picture (above) fills the TV fully.

Samsung Frame TV (Art Mode)
  1. Save the message to your phone.
  2. Open the SmartThings app, choose your TV, then Art Mode.
  3. Tap Add your photos and pick the message. Choose the TV (4K) size in step 5 for the sharpest result.
USB stick (no phone needed)
  1. Use Download (computer) to save the message, then copy it onto a USB stick.
  2. Plug the stick into your TV and open it from the TV’s Source or Media menu.
  3. Select the picture. It stays on screen until you change it.

OLED TV? Don’t leave the same still picture on screen for many hours, to avoid screen burn-in.

Questions about TV messages

How do I show a welcome home message on my TV?

Personalise your message, then use Show on TV to open it full screen on a smart TV browser, or download it and play it from a USB stick or by casting from your phone.

Can I use a welcome screen in my holiday let?

Yes. Add your guests' names and a short welcome, and have it showing on the TV when they arrive. A business licence covers regular use across your bookings.

Can I save a message as a phone wallpaper?

Yes. Choose phone as the screen type and save the image, then set it as your lock screen or wallpaper.
